Lawsuit Challenges U.S. Deportations to Equatorial Guinea via Third-Country Deal
An alliance of international lawyers has filed a complaint with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to stop the United States from deporting migrants through a third-country arrangement to Equatorial Guinea. The case, brought on behalf of 14 deportees, alleges arbitrary detention and risks of persecution or torture. The complaint targets a pact between the U.S. and Equatorial Guinea that allows deporting people who cannot be safely returned to their home countries.
