Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf announced that the signing of an MoU with the US is a diplomatic victory, opening a new chapter in bilateral ties. The memorandum includes commitments on nuclear controls, sanctions relief, and economic cooperation.
The U.S.-Iran MoU is not a peace treaty but a strategic pause understood by both sides. Iran has a consistent pattern of negotiating under pressure and reneging when the threat passes, as seen with the JCPOA. The Trump administration enters this pause aware of Iran's deceit, using it to prepare for future confrontation rather than expecting lasting compliance.
A senior Iranian diplomatic delegation has arrived in Switzerland to monitor and facilitate the implementation of international commitments related to the nuclear accord, as ongoing talks continue. The delegation will work with Swiss officials and other parties to review progress and address persistent disagreements. US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have electronically signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding to end nearly four months of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. The deal commits to ending military operations, preventing Iran’s nuclear weapons development, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, though implementation remains uncertain.
Iran is evaluating a scenario where Presidents Masoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump directly sign a memorandum of understanding in Switzerland, as Trump says the deal will be inked soon. The agreement would include measures on uranium enrichment, sanctions relief, and strait governance.
Tensions between the US and Iran have spiraled under Donald Trump’s presidency, from the JCPOA exit in 2018 to a full-blown war in 2026. A preliminary agreement is expected in Geneva, but key details remain undisclosed.
A US-Iran memorandum expected to be signed Friday could pave the way for a $300 billion investment fund for Iran as part of a deal to end the war, though the Trump administration insists it is not a payment for Tehran's enriched uranium. Vice President JD Vance said financial incentives will be tied to Iran's fulfillment of its obligations, and the fund is reportedly financed by a Gulf coalition, not the US government.
