Japan Weighs Adding Railways to Defense Spending

The Japanese government is considering including railways within the scope of defense-related spending, as the country prepares to revise three key security documents by the end of this year, according to sources close to the matter.

The move is seen as aimed at broadening the way defense spending is calculated, with railway transport infrastructure potentially regarded as serving national security objectives.

The review of the three key security documents is expected to reshape Japan's defense policy going forward. According to the sources, officials are examining whether railways can be included in the category of defense-related spending.
