U.S. Central Command said American forces intercepted attacks from Iran and carried out retaliatory airstrikes as naval vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. Officials reported no U.S. assets were hit, and strikes targeted launch positions, command centers, and intelligence infrastructure.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces intercepted attacks described as originating from Iran and conducted retaliatory strikes while naval vessels were transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday.
According to CENTCOM, Iranian forces launched a coordinated attack using “multiple missiles, drones, and small boats” as the U.S. Navy destroyers USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason moved through the waterway toward the Gulf of Oman.
U.S. officials said “no U.S. assets were hit” during the encounter.
CENTCOM stated that forces responded with “self-defense strikes,” targeting sites identified as responsible for the attacks.
The command reported hitting missile and drone launch positions, command centers, and intelligence infrastructure.
“CENTCOM does not seek escalation but remains ready and capable of defending U.S. forces,” the statement added.
