Speaking at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Iran's ambassador stressed that any US use of force against Tehran would not achieve its objectives, while warning of unpredictable consequences for the region.
According to the ambassador, pressure tactics and military threats cannot resolve differences between the two countries. He affirmed that Iran remains committed to its international obligations and is ready for dialogue on the basis of respect for sovereignty and political independence.
The statement comes amid recently escalating US-Iran tensions. Washington has imposed a series of sanctions and deployed military forces to the region, while Tehran has said it will respond to any act infringing on its territory.
Iran's ambassador called on the international community, especially the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to play a more active role in promoting dialogue and preventing conflict. He stressed that a diplomatic solution is the only path to ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East.
