Iran Parliament Elects Ghalibaf as Speaker for Seventh Consecutive Year
On May 28, Iran's parliament voted overwhelmingly to re-elect Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf as its speaker for a seventh consecutive term. He received 198 of 287 valid votes, defeating two opponents. Ghalibaf, a veteran politician and former Tehran mayor, pledged to focus on economic reforms and parliamentary oversight.
