President Donald Trump said Russia has agreed to supply 300,000 tons of diesel to global markets following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "I just concluded a very successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, in which both sides agreed that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to the U.S. and global markets, an additional 500,000 tons in November, and 1,000,000 tons shortly thereafter."
The U.S. leader added that Russia would deliver an additional 3 million tons of fuel "within a short period of time." He said the country would supply 500,000 tons in November.
Shortly afterward, Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy to Russian President Vladimir Putin, praised Russia-U.S. cooperation on diesel and energy in a post on X.
"Russia-U.S. cooperation on diesel and energy will benefit the world," Dmitriev wrote on X.
Pressure on Fuel Prices
The deal was announced despite Ukrainian airstrikes that are said to have halted more than half of Russia's oil refining capacity, according to a statement from Ukraine's Ministry of Defense on Sunday.
The latest announcement came a week after G7 nations agreed to release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel under pressure from the White House.
Diesel prices have been high in recent months but have begun to decline. According to AAA, which tracks fuel prices daily, the average price per gallon is $6.27 ($1.66 per liter). That is down $0.10 from the same time last week, but up $5.94 from the same time a month ago.
