Jessica Bang, a promising young Australian golfer, has died at age 18 after suffering a brain hemorrhage while preparing for a tournament in Thailand, according to statements from her family and tournament organizers.
The incident occurred on August 1 when she suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital in Bangkok for emergency brain surgery. However, she did not survive and passed away on Thursday.
Earlier this year, Jessica Bang claimed victory at her first professional tournament in just her fifth appearance. She was in Bangkok to take part in international qualifying for the Korean women's professional golf tour.
In a message posted on a GoFundMe page created after her collapse, her family said: “We are truly heartbroken by this news. However, we want to continue to remember Jessica and honor her achievements, passion, and dedication to golf. Donations raised will be given to her parents to support medical expenses.”
The Women's Professional Golf Association of Australasia (WPGA Tour of Australasia) hailed her as an “outstanding young talent” who turned professional in late 2025 after a distinguished amateur career.
“The WPGA Tour of Australasia and the Australian golf community are deeply saddened by the passing of young member Jessica Bang in Thailand. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the Australian golf community are with her family, friends, and all who loved Jessica during this incredibly difficult time,” the WPGA statement said.
