Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said on Wednesday (March 26) that Tehran will overcome U.S. economic sanctions, comparing the current economic struggle to the country's past military victories.
Speaking at a meeting in Tehran, Aref emphasized: “Just as we won on the battlefield, we will also win the economic war.” He said the U.S.-imposed sanctions have created pressure but have also pushed Iran to seek domestic solutions and diversify its partnerships.
The remarks come as Washington maintains sanctions targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. Since the United States withdrew from the JCPOA nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions in 2018, Iran’s economy has faced high inflation and a depreciating national currency.
However, the Iranian government has repeatedly affirmed the resilience of its economy and its commitment to development despite external pressure. Aref also called on domestic ministries and businesses to strengthen self-reliance and seize cooperation opportunities with regional and Asian countries.
Analysts say Aref’s statement aims to reassure the domestic public and send a firm message to Washington, reflecting Tehran's strategy of turning challenges into opportunities to build a more independent economy.
