Former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei has mocked US President Donald Trump's claim that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in resolving conflicts.
According to RT, speaking at a United Nations event, ElBaradei — who himself won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 — voiced skepticism about Trump's claim. He said awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the US president would be "absurd" given the actual actions of the Washington administration.
ElBaradei stressed that the Nobel Peace Prize should go to individuals who have made genuine and lasting contributions to world peace, rather than being based on political statements.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his diplomatic efforts, including promoting peace deals in the Middle East and reducing tensions with North Korea.
However, many international observers say such claims are largely self-serving and have yet to produce concrete results, while the Trump administration continues to maintain policies that fuel tensions around the world.
