A man has died after entering a tiger enclosure at a wildlife park in northern England and being attacked by a tiger inside, police said.
South Yorkshire Police said officers and emergency medical crews were dispatched to Yorkshire Wildlife Park near the city of Doncaster at about 1:35 p.m. local time (12:35 GMT) on Saturday after receiving reports that a man had entered the tiger enclosure area.
The man died at the scene. It remains unclear how he got inside the enclosure.
Police said the tiger was not injured and remained inside its enclosure throughout the incident, and stressed there was no wider danger to the public.
The park was evacuated, and police remained at the scene on Saturday evening.
In a statement, police said: "The man's family has been notified and is being supported by specially trained officers. Our condolences are with the family at this painful time."
Police also confirmed they are aware of a video circulating on social media that appears to show the man inside the tiger enclosure shortly before the attack, and urged the public not to share the shocking footage.
The park said it had closed following a serious incident involving the tiger enclosure and would remain closed through Sunday.
"We are working closely with the authorities to establish exactly what happened," the park said in a statement on its website.
"The safety and welfare of our visitors, staff and animals remains our highest priority."
Yorkshire Wildlife Park opened in 2009, and its Land of the Tigers exhibit — a 0.4-hectare (2-acre) reserve built specifically for the endangered Amur, or Siberian, tiger — opened in 2011.
According to the park, a 300-metre (985-foot) elevated walkway allows visitors to watch the tigers move through woodland and grassland, as well as play in a waterfall pool.
