Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on November 19 that the recent 40-day conflict has “shattered the illusion” of the US security umbrella in the Middle East. Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Araghchi stressed that Washington’s presence and commitments have not delivered real stability to its regional allies.
“The 40-day war clearly showed that the illusion of US-provided security no longer holds,” Araghchi said. “Countries in the region must realize they need to rely on their internal capabilities and regional cooperation to protect their interests.” Iran’s top diplomat also accused the US of maintaining destabilizing policies that worsen tensions instead of seeking peaceful solutions.
Araghchi’s remarks came amid complex regional developments, including ongoing conflicts and military clashes between Israel and Iran-backed groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran has repeatedly warned that US and allied intervention would only raise the risk of escalating violence, while reaffirming Tehran’s readiness to defend itself and support its regional partners.
The foreign minister’s comments reflect Tehran’s consistent stance against the US military presence in the Middle East. Iranian officials have long emphasized that regional security can only be achieved through dialogue and cooperation among regional states, rather than reliance on foreign forces.
