US to Cut Overseas Troop Numbers by More Than 5,000 — Trump
TASS
President Donald Trump said the United States will sharply reduce overseas troop numbers by more than the 5,000 soldiers being withdrawn from Germany. The Pentagon previously announced a 5,000-troop pullout from Germany, but Trump suggested the overall reduction will be larger. Details on other affected deployments have not been disclosed.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States will significantly reduce its overseas troop presence, with cuts well beyond the 5,000 soldiers slated for withdrawal from Germany.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “We're going to be cutting down very substantially. And we're going to be cutting down more than 5,000, by quite a bit.”
The statement came as the U.S. leader commented on the Pentagon's previously announced plan to pull 5,000 troops out of Germany. The extent to which other overseas deployments will be affected remains unclear.
