US approves over $8.6 billion in weapons sales to Middle East allies

The US State Department has approved more than $8.6 billion in weapons sales to Israel, Qatar, and the UAE, including Patriot missiles and IBCS systems. The deals include $992.4 million in APKWS rockets for Israel, $4.01 billion in Patriot missiles for Qatar, and $147.6 million in guidance kits for the UAE. Officials say the sales align with US national interests and will not shift the regional power balance.
On May 2, the US State Department announced approval of weapons sales valued at over $8.6 billion to Middle Eastern allies, including Israel, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Specifically, the US approved an $992.4 million sale to Israel of 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guided rockets and related equipment. For Qatar, the US authorized the purchase of Patriot air defense system missiles worth $4.01 billion, as well as the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) and associated logistics valued at $2.5 billion. The UAE will acquire 1,500 APKWS guidance kits for $147.6 million.
In a statement, the State Department said these deals serve US national interests and will not alter the regional balance of power. It also stressed that the sales will not affect the combat readiness of US armed forces.
