The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that heavy rain poured over eastern Japan from the evening of October 3 through the early hours of October 4, causing severe flooding on many roads in Chiba Prefecture, which borders the capital Tokyo.
According to local government reports, as of the morning of October 4, four people had died and one person was in critical condition, unresponsive, as a result of the unprecedented downpour.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a Level 5 warning—the highest on its alert scale—for heavy rain across more than one-third of the cities in Chiba Prefecture. This emergency-level alert urges residents to take immediate safety measures.
The heavy rain left numerous roads in the region deeply submerged, isolating several residential areas and hampering rescue efforts. Emergency teams are working urgently to address the aftermath, search for affected residents, and provide support to those in impacted zones.
Japanese authorities are advising residents in the area to remain vigilant against the risks of landslides and flooding as weather conditions continue to be unstable.
