MSF: Israel Created an 'Artificial Malnutrition Crisis' in Gaza

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on April 3 accused Israel of deliberately restricting food and aid into Gaza, causing an artificial malnutrition crisis that hits infants, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers hardest. The report cites higher preterm births and miscarriages linked to malnutrition, blaming Israel’s blockade and attacks on infrastructure.

On April 3, the international medical organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) released a report accusing Israel of deliberately restricting food and aid into the Gaza Strip, creating an “artificial malnutrition crisis” with particularly severe impacts on infants, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.
The report analyzes conditions at four MSF-supported health facilities in Gaza from late 2024 to early 2026. Findings show significantly higher rates of preterm birth and infant mortality among malnourished mothers, along with a surge in miscarriages. MSF attributes these outcomes to Israel’s blockade of essential goods and attacks on civilian infrastructure.
“This malnutrition crisis is entirely artificial, deliberately created,” stressed Merce Rocaspana, an MSF health specialist for emergency situations, in a statement.
The report also examines the harm caused by a private entity backed by the U.S. and Israel, established last year to replace much of the United Nations’ aid distribution operations in Gaza. MSF says this model has worsened the food and medical shortages for the population.
