On February 28 (local time), a shooting occurred in the city of Midland, Texas, leaving at least one person dead and nine others injured and hospitalized. Local police confirmed that the suspect died after barricading himself inside a building for hours and engaging in a standoff with law enforcement.
The city of Midland posted on social media: “The shooting incident has been resolved, and the suspect is confirmed deceased. The scene remains secured and has not been cleared. Road closures in the area are expected to continue for the time being to facilitate the investigation.”
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing approximately 40 gunshots. Midland Memorial Hospital announced that four victims are undergoing surgery, while five others are in stable condition.
Speaking at a press conference, Mayor Lori Blong said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We will do everything we can to support them during this difficult time.”
