Tehran – On October 23, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy officially announced it had conducted a drone (UAV) attack targeting the US Navy's Fifth Fleet at its naval base in Bahrain, a Gulf state.
According to a statement from the IRGC, the attack was carried out in response to US provocations and violations of sovereignty in the region. Iranian military sources said the drones precisely targeted Fifth Fleet warships and infrastructure, causing significant damage. However, details on the extent of damage and casualties have not been released.
The US Navy's Fifth Fleet, headquartered at Naval Support Activity Bahrain, is Washington's key naval force in the Middle East, responsible for protecting strategic sea lanes in the Gulf. The attack comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the US over the nuclear program, regional military activities, and the conflict in Yemen.
The Pentagon has not yet issued an official comment. International analysts assess this as a serious escalation that could push the region to the brink of direct military confrontation.
