On April 2, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that Iran will not reach an agreement with the United States until Tehran's legitimate rights and interests are guaranteed. The statement came amid escalating tensions between the two countries over the nuclear program and regional issues.
Speaking to lawmakers, Ghalibaf emphasized that any negotiations with Washington can only take place on the basis of full respect for Iran's sovereignty and rights. He also asserted that Tehran does not accept pressure or preconditions from the US side.
The move follows several rounds of indirect talks between the two sides through intermediaries, which have not made significant progress. Iran maintains that the US policy of 'maximum pressure' is the main obstacle to any agreement.
Analysts believe Ghalibaf's remarks reflect the consistent stance of Iran's leadership and highlight the wide gap between the two countries before comprehensive negotiations can resume.
