Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on June 26 responded to reports of new US sanctions against Tehran, asserting that these measures will not weaken Iran's determination.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Kanaani stressed: "US sanctions are nothing new and cannot affect the resolve of the Iranian people and government." According to him, Tehran always pursues policies based on national interests and will not change its position under any external pressure.
The spokesman also criticized the US sanctions as "a violation of international law" and reaffirmed Iran's right to develop its nuclear program for peaceful purposes. He called on the United States to abandon its "maximum pressure" policy and return to implementing commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal.
Earlier, on June 25, the US Treasury announced sanctions on six companies and several individuals linked to Iran's oil export activities, aiming to intensify economic pressure on Tehran. This is the latest round of sanctions in Washington's efforts to curb activities it considers violating international resolutions.
Iran has repeatedly declared it will not yield to sanctions and warned that such measures will only increase regional tensions and complicate diplomatic processes.
