Tehran confirmed on Monday that it has delivered a formal letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres concerning a US military strike that killed multiple people. The document accuses Washington of violating international law and the UN Charter, and urges the Security Council to condemn the action.
According to the letter, Iran stresses that the airstrikes targeting locations in Syria and Iraq constitute a "blatant act of aggression" and "war crimes." Tehran asserts its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warns of an appropriate response at a suitable time and place.
The letter also details casualties and argues that the attack severely violates the sovereignty of independent states and undermines security in an already unstable region. Iran calls on the Security Council to convene an emergency session to consider the matter and to take measures to prevent a further escalation of conflict.
The diplomatic move comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington following recent clashes in the Middle East. The United States has not yet issued an official response to the letter.
