Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei on December 10 responded to U.S. statements that Washington is waging an economic war against Tehran, calling the move a “dishonorable” act and a violation of legal standards and international law.
According to Baqaei, the U.S. imposition of unilateral economic sanctions, framed as part of a maximum pressure strategy, not only harms the Iranian people but also erodes multilateral institutions and fair global trade.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, the Iranian diplomat stressed that using the economy as a political weapon is a “dishonorable” action and reflects a failure in the approach to dialogue. He called on the international community to condemn these unilateral measures to protect commonly agreed norms.
Tehran has long rejected U.S. accusations of military intervention or support for terrorism, reiterating that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. Talks on the nuclear deal have yet to yield new progress amid rising tensions.
