Iran's UN ambassador said a deal with the US is possible if Washington acts reasonably. He called for an end to maximum pressure and respect for Iran's interests. The statement comes amid ongoing tensions over Iran's nuclear program.
Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said on April 12 that a deal between Iran and the United States is entirely feasible if Washington acts reasonably. Speaking at a press conference in New York, Iravani stressed that Iran is ready for dialogue, but a prerequisite is that the US must abandon its policy of maximum pressure and respect Tehran's legitimate interests.
The Iranian diplomat said any agreement must be based on mutual respect and safeguard the interests of both sides. He also argued that US sanctions are hampering the negotiation process and harming Iran's economy. Therefore, to achieve a sustainable deal, Washington must take practical steps and avoid provocative actions.
The statement comes amid continued high tensions between Iran and the United States over Tehran's nuclear program and regional issues. Iran has repeatedly called for direct dialogue but conditioned it on the US lifting sanctions and refraining from interfering in Iran's internal affairs.
