On August 27, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei spoke out against remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accusing Rubio of distorting history.
According to Iran's news agency, Baqaei reacted after the US secretary of state made comments related to Iran. Baqaei said Rubio's statements were aimed at twisting historical facts.
Iran argues that the US secretary of state's remarks are part of Washington's efforts to apply pressure and shape public opinion regarding Tehran. There has so far been no official response from the US State Department to Baqaei's statement.
Relations between Iran and the United States have remained tense in recent times, with repeated exchanges of remarks between officials of the two countries.
