According to Iran's state news agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei has criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accusing him of distorting reality. Baqaei stressed that misrepresenting the facts cannot hide the problems Washington is facing.
The remarks came as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate. Iran argues that statements from US officials are aimed at diverting attention from America's own internal difficulties.
Baqaei insisted that Iran's position is grounded in reality and clear principles, and rejected what he called baseless accusations from the United States. He did not, however, go into specific detail about the content of Secretary Rubio's remarks.
This is not the first time Iran and the United States have exchanged sharp rhetoric through diplomatic channels. The two sides have long been at odds over numerous issues, from the nuclear program to regional influence, and such war of words has occurred frequently.
