Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei on January 11 criticized the United States for continuing to use sanctions as a foreign policy instrument, calling it an "addiction" that exposes the deadlock in Washington's approach.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Baqaei said the US imposition of new sanctions proves that its policy has hit a dead end. He stressed: "Washington's overuse of sanctions shows that it no longer has any other effective tools to pursue its interests."
The Iranian spokesman also asserted that Tehran will not yield to external pressure and declared that it will continue to expand relations with neighboring countries and international partners. "Iran is always ready to cooperate in a spirit of mutual respect and mutual benefit," Baqaei added.
The remarks came amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the US, particularly over the nuclear program and regional issues. The US has imposed multiple rounds of sanctions on Iran since withdrawing from the nuclear deal in 2018, while Tehran has repeatedly rejected these measures, calling them a violation of international law.
