A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps official warned the US would face a 'crushing' response if it intervenes in the Strait of Hormuz, arguing Washington no longer qualifies as a superpower. The statement comes amid heightened tensions over the strategic waterway.
A senior political officer of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Yadollah Javani, on August 10 warned Washington of consequences should it take military action in the Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview with the ISNA news agency, Javani declared any US attempt to interfere with the strategic waterway would meet a 'decisive and crushing response.'
He stressed: 'President Trump's problem today is opening the Strait of Hormuz. He knocked on every door for 40 days of war and after, but to no avail.'
According to the IRGC official, the situation shows 'the US is no longer a superpower; it has encountered a superpower.' Javani asserted: 'The US will test its strength, mobilize all its power, but ultimately will fail.'
He also accused Washington of seeking to open the waterway by 'putting pressure' on Tehran.
