FIFA's Ethics Committee has banned former Guyana Football Federation General Secretary Ian Alves from all football-related activities for five years for sexual harassment of a female employee. Alves was also fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($25,500) for violations of the FIFA Code of Ethics. The ban is effective immediately upon notification.
FIFA announced on April 7 that its independent Ethics Committee has banned former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Ian Alves from all football-related activities for five years, concluding that he engaged in sexual harassment against a female employee.
In addition to the ban, Alves was fined 20,000 Swiss francs (approximately $25,500) for violating provisions of the FIFA Code of Ethics concerning the protection of physical and mental integrity, abuse of position, and general duties.
"FIFA maintains a strict stance against all forms of abuse in football," the global football governing body emphasized in a statement released Monday.
The decision came after reviewing written statements from the victim, documents provided by the GFF, testimony from Alves, and other evidence gathered during the investigation.
Alves had resigned in 2024. The ban takes effect from the date of notification, when Alves was informed of the terms of the ruling. FIFA added that the full grounds of the decision will be sent within 60 days as per the FIFA Code of Ethics.
