Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez will travel to The Hague on March 29 to attend the ICJ hearing on the Essequibo territory dispute with Guyana, her first trip abroad since President Maduro’s abduction by U.S. forces in January 2026. The case involves the oil-rich region that accounts for two-thirds of Guyana’s territory, contested since the 1899 British colonial border agreement. Rodriguez, who has complied with U.S. demands since taking office, will argue that the frontier should be redrawn according to a 1966 pre-independence accord.
FIFA's Ethics Committee has banned former Guyana Football Federation General Secretary Ian Alves from all football-related activities for five years for sexual harassment of a female employee. Alves was also fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($25,500) for violations of the FIFA Code of Ethics. The ban is effective immediately upon notification.
