On March 28, a senior Iranian official warned that if the United States launches attacks on Kharg Island — Iran's strategic oil export center — Tehran will respond forcefully, leaving a lasting mark in history.
Speaking on state television, the official stressed: “Any military action against Kharg Island crosses a red line. Iran's reply will make the attacker regret it and be recorded in the annals of history.”
Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, is vital to Iran's economy, handling about 90% of the country's crude oil exports. Any damage there could cause major upheaval in global energy markets.
The statement comes amid renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington, following a series of mutual accusations of attacks on ships and energy infrastructure in the region.
There has been no official response from the United States. However, analysts say Iran's threat is meant to deter Washington and its allies, as negotiations over the nuclear program remain stalled.
