Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh emphasized that Iran always respects Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and supports a political solution to the crisis in the Middle Eastern country. He also called on the US to stop making unfounded accusations and instead focus on diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Previously, the US had repeatedly accused Iran of providing weapons, financial support, and training to Houthi forces, which control much of northern Yemen. However, Tehran has consistently denied these claims, asserting that it has no role in directing or supporting military operations in Yemen.
Tensions between Iran and the US have escalated over the years, especially after Washington withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and imposed economic sanctions on Tehran. The conflict in Yemen, ongoing since 2014, has killed tens of thousands of people and pushed the country into the world's most severe humanitarian crisis.
The international community, including the United Nations, has repeatedly called for a ceasefire and peaceful dialogue between the parties. However, previous rounds of negotiations between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and Houthi forces have not yielded concrete results.
