Former Japanese Agriculture Minister Hands Out Free Headbands at Campaign Launch

Former Japanese Agriculture Minister Kazuo Yana handed out free headbands at a campaign launch event in his constituency for the general election set for February, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The disclosure came on Tuesday and is seen as potentially constituting a violation of election law.

Yana is a figure who faced a number of scandals during his tenure as agriculture minister. Distributing free items to attendees in the context of campaign activity raises questions about compliance with Japan's rules governing elections.

There is currently no detailed information on how many headbands were handed out, nor any official response from Yana or the authorities.
