Anti-austerity protests in Brussels: Thousands march, clashes erupt
Clashes erupted near Brussels Central station on the margins of a protest by Belgium's socialist trade union against federal austerity plans. Police used tear gas, water cannons and batons against a group they described as troublemakers, saying the main march was peaceful. Around 30,000 people took part, according to police, while the ABVV union had estimated 50,000.
