France produced an impressive comeback to beat Belgium 4-1 in their Nations League Group A1 clash at the Stade de France overnight. It was manager Zinedine Zidane's first home win, just three days after a 1-1 draw with Italy.
The visitors went ahead in the 35th minute through Dodi Lukebakio. But the turning point came only when Zidane sent on his substitutes. Desire Doue, Rayan Cherki and Michael Olise — all of whom started on the bench — turned the game around in the final 15 minutes.
In the 77th minute, Doue equalised with a left-footed strike from the edge of the box. Four minutes later, Cherki put France ahead after a pass from Olise. Olise then completed his own brace late on, his second goal coming after a sharp counter-attack and a deft pass from Doue.
In the other match in the group, Italy beat Turkey 3-1 with goals from Gianluca Scamacca, Riccardo Calafiori and Pio Esposito. Aral Simsir equalised for Turkey just after the 60th minute, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.
With this result, France top Group A1 with 10 points, three ahead of Italy and four ahead of Belgium. Turkey are bottom of the group after losing all four matches.
France are next scheduled to travel to Milan to face Italy in their penultimate group game next month, before hosting Turkey at home.
