JR West to Retire Legendary 500-Series Shinkansen and Doctor Yellow in January 2027
JR West will stop operating the 500-series Shinkansen, once among the world’s fastest trains, and the Doctor Yellow inspection train on January 13, 2027. The move follows three decades of service and the gradual shift to newer, more efficient models. Special farewell events are planned.
