West Ham United has urged fans to stop singing a song containing an "anti-Palestinian message" as the club prepares for its first home match of the season in the English Championship.
In a lengthy statement released on Thursday, the east London club said it was "aware of an offensive and divisive song" sung by a section of supporters during the opening league game at Burnley on Sunday.
One of West Ham's new signings during the summer transfer window is Israeli midfielder Manor Solomon, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year contract.
"We encourage fans to sing loudly and proudly about their football club and the players who wear the claret and blue shirt — but never in a way that is divisive or offensive to other supporters," West Ham said in the statement, which was released to "remind fans of our shared responsibility to represent the club in the right way".
West Ham, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, host Charlton Athletic at the London Stadium on Saturday.
