Golders Green Stabbings: Muslim Victim Ignored by British Media
Middle East Eye
British media heavily covered the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green but largely ignored a Muslim victim, Ishmail Hussein, who was also stabbed the same day by the same attacker. Critics accuse the media of bias and devaluing Muslim lives.

On May 1, a Muslim man named Ishmail Hussein was stabbed in London. The suspect, Essa Suleiman, 45, was arrested and charged with attempted murder. However, most major British news outlets focused solely on two subsequent stabbings later that day in Golders Green, a neighborhood with a large Jewish population, for which Suleiman also faces charges.
Hussein’s attack was largely ignored or only appeared as a brief add-on, often beginning with the phrase 'also charged.' Major news agencies including Reuters, AP, BBC, and Sky News ran headlines that only referenced the two Jewish victims. London police also tweeted only about 'two men stabbed in Golders Green,' despite mentioning Hussein in the full statement.
Meanwhile, the BBC published a full article about the two Jewish victims: Moshe Shine, 76, described as 'gentle and quiet,' and Shloime Rand, 34, called a 'wonderful guy' by friends. No similar article was written about Hussein. The article’s author criticized the media and politicians for 'weaponizing' the incident against Palestinians and Muslims, arguing it reflected a mindset that 'some lives are worth more than others.'
