Real Madrid have announced they have reached an agreement to extend Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr's contract until June 2032. The decision officially closes months of speculation over the future of the 26-year-old, who had been linked with a move to Arsenal.
Vinicius's previous contract with the Spanish giants was set to expire in June 2027. In a statement released on Thursday, Real Madrid confirmed: "Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr have agreed to extend the player's contract until 30 June 2032. Vinicius has become one of the most important players during the most successful period in the club's history."
Since joining from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius Jr has scored 128 goals and provided 100 assists for Real Madrid. He has been a central figure in the team's attack in recent seasons, playing a key role in winning two Champions League titles, three La Liga trophies, and numerous other honors. The contract extension also spares Real Madrid the risk of losing one of their most valuable players on a free transfer.
Earlier, Spanish and English media had reported on lengthy negotiations between the player and the club, while Arsenal were said to be closely monitoring the situation. Vinicius Jr also endured a difficult summer as Brazil were eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by Norway.
According to plans, Vinicius will work under coach Jose Mourinho, who is set to return for a second spell at Real Madrid in June after the club endured a trophyless season, finishing second in La Liga and exiting at the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Keeping Vinicius is a key move in a busy transfer window for Real Madrid, who have also signed forward Yan Diomande, midfielder Bernardo Silva, centre-back Ibrahima Konate, left-back Marc Cucurella, and wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
