Tulsi Gabbard has officially stepped down as U.S. Director of National Intelligence, one of the top national security posts under President Donald Trump, according to her resignation letter posted on her X social media account.
In the letter addressed to the President, Gabbard expressed deep gratitude for the trust Mr. Trump placed in her and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) over the past year and a half.
Gabbard cited as the primary reason for her resignation that her husband was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. This family medical issue, she explained, prevents her from continuing to serve in a role that demands intense focus and dedication.
The resignation comes as a surprise in U.S. national security circles, at a time when the Trump administration is confronting multiple challenges. Details regarding her successor or any changes within ODNI are expected to be announced soon.
