Iran's Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi warned on July 27 that US forces are not allowed to be present in the Persian Gulf, emphasizing that Tehran will respond firmly to any action threatening national security.
Speaking at a press conference, Major General Mousavi stated: "The Americans are not permitted to be there. They must understand that any of their presence in the Persian Gulf is a provocative act, and Iran will respond appropriately."
The statement comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries following seizures of oil tankers and attacks on commercial vessels in the region. Last week, Iran detained two foreign oil tankers, raising concerns about maritime security on this vital shipping route.
The US military currently maintains a presence in the Persian Gulf through the Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain. Washington insists it will continue patrolling the area to ensure freedom of navigation, despite warnings from Tehran.
Iran has repeatedly warned against US military buildup in the region, viewing it as a direct threat to national security. However, analysts suggest that Tehran's deterrence statements may be insufficient to alter Washington's strategy in this resource-rich area.
