According to U.S. officials, China has declared it will review and address concerns related to shortages in the rare earth supply chain. The statement comes amid ongoing trade and technology tensions between the two countries.
Rare earths are a strategic group of minerals critical to producing high-tech equipment such as smartphones, electric vehicles, and advanced weapons systems. China currently accounts for about 60% of global rare earth mining output and 85% of refining capacity.
This move follows months of bilateral discussions over the risks of concentrated supply and the need for diversification. Observers say Beijing’s commitment could help ease pressure on the global technology market, which faces risks of severe disruption.
