US President Donald Trump on March 12 announced an economic campaign described as the “most brutal” ever against Iran, as negotiations to end the more than five-month conflict between the two countries remain deadlocked.
On social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran had “missed the opportunity” to reach a deal and would face “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.”
The US leader also announced sanctions against any country conducting business with Iran. He emphasized: “Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government agencies to provide any form of support to Iran will face MASSIVE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES. Oil smuggling, swap channels, money transfers, foreign exchange platforms, ship registration, shell companies—all of it must stop NOW. You know who you are. This will be an economic D-Day, and we need all allies to stand with the US to isolate and defeat the threat from Iran.”
Trump declared that Iran is “on the brink” and that his “historic” measures would render the country “paralyzed.”
