Tottenham Hotspur have announced the successful acquisition of forward Omar Marmoush from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal. Under the agreement, the north London club will be obligated to make the 27-year-old's move permanent at the end of the season.
According to British media, the guaranteed transfer fee is £50 million ($68 million), plus £10 million in performance-related add-ons.
Speaking in a statement released on Thursday, Marmoush expressed his excitement: "Being here is a great feeling. I can't wait to start working with the team and meet the fans. Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in England, even in the world, and the project here really appeals to me. I've spoken with head coach Roberto De Zerbi, I really like what he had to say, and I'm sure our passion for football will match well."
Marmoush has had two contrasting seasons at Manchester City. He made a strong impression in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign after joining, but then struggled to compete for a place with the established stars in Pep Guardiola's squad, particularly star striker Erling Haaland.
Last season, the Egyptian forward scored just 3 goals in 21 Premier League appearances, a modest return compared to the 7 goals he netted in his first half-season at the Etihad.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who took over Tottenham in March and helped the club avoid relegation, wanted to add more attacking firepower to his revamped squad. Earlier, Spurs had spent a total of £237 million ($322 million) to bring in midfielders Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and defender Jan Paul van Hecke.
In addition, Tottenham have also signed Brazilian winger Savio (formerly known as Savinho) from Manchester City, for a reported fee of around £75 million ($102 million) plus £10 million in add-ons.
Marmoush is regarded as a versatile forward, capable of playing as a central striker or on the left wing. He is expected to get more playing time under De Zerbi, with Spurs having endured two difficult seasons, finishing 17th in the table.
Marmoush represented Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, playing five matches without scoring as his team was eliminated in the round of 16 by eventual runners-up Argentina.
Tottenham began the new season poorly, losing 0-3 to Brentford in the opening Premier League round. In their next match, they host Newcastle United at home on Saturday.
