President Trump said three U.S. Navy destroyers successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz under fire, with no American casualties or ship damage. He claimed heavy damage was inflicted on Iranian attackers, including missiles and drones shot down.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that three U.S. Navy destroyers have crossed the Strait of Hormuz under fire, with no damage reported to American ships.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the transit as a success despite targeted attacks.
"Three world-class U.S. destroyers just very successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz under fire," he said.
"There was no damage to the three destroyers, but heavy damage to the Iranian attackers," he declared.
Trump added that missiles and drones targeted the ships during the transit.
He said "missiles were fired at our destroyers and were easily shot down," and that drones were also "burned out of the sky."
The U.S. president also issued a warning about future escalation.
"A normal country would allow these destroyers to pass through, but Iran is not a normal country. They are led by lunatics, and if they had the chance to use nuclear weapons, they would do it, for sure — But they will never have that chance and just as we defeated them today, we will defeat them far more powerfully and violently in the future, if they do not sign their agreement quickly!" he said.
Trump added that the ships will rejoin U.S. naval operations in the region.
"Our three destroyers, along with their great crews, will rejoin our Naval Blockade," he said.
