England striker Ivan Toney has been charged by London police with assault at a nightclub in Soho, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The charge relates to an alleged assault that took place on December 6 last year at a nightclub on Wardour Street. Police said: “Ivan Toney, 30, from Northampton, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm on Thursday, July 31. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 24.”
Toney currently plays for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League. He scored 42 goals last season after moving from Brentford (Premier League) to Saudi Arabia for a transfer fee of £53.8 million ($72.3 million) in 2024.
The 30-year-old was part of the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, featuring in two matches — including the semi-final loss to Argentina and the third-place playoff win over France. Toney began his career at hometown club Northampton Town before moving to the Premier League with Newcastle United in 2015.
He was considered a late bloomer at the top level, having to wait until 2023 for his England debut, coming on as a substitute for Harry Kane in a match against Ukraine.
Al-Ahli will begin their new Saudi Pro League campaign on August 13, 2026, with an away match at Diriyah Club, having finished last season in third place.
