On June 28, Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the full text of the Islamabad Memorandum, a comprehensive cooperation document between Tehran and Islamabad. The agreement was signed during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's official visit to Tehran in early June.
The memorandum covers key cooperation areas such as border security, counterterrorism, bilateral trade, and energy. The two sides have committed to enhanced intelligence sharing and coordinated patrols along their more than 900-kilometer border.
On the economic front, Iran and Pakistan have agreed to boost bilateral trade to $5 billion within three years, up from about $2 billion in 2023. The two countries will also complete technical procedures to soon launch the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline.
Tehran emphasized that the public release of the document's content is meant to demonstrate transparency in foreign relations, while reaffirming its commitment to implementing the signed provisions.
