Early on June 22 (Vietnam time), Spain cruised to a 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the second match of Group H at the 2026 World Cup, played at Atlanta Stadium. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute, while Mikel Oyarzabal bagged a brace to help the European champions temporarily top the group with four points.
The match saw an impressive return to form for Lamine Yamal after a prolonged period without playing. The young Spanish star was only a substitute in the goalless draw against Cape Verde. Against Saudi Arabia, he immediately made a difference with a clever run and close-range finish from Oyarzabal's pass, scoring his first goal at a World Cup.
After breaking the deadlock, Spain exploded into action and doubled their lead from a corner. Aymeric Laporte rose highest to head the ball, setting up Oyarzabal for a simple close-range finish. Just three minutes later, Oyarzabal completed his brace with a fine volley after a pass from Dani Olmo, ending the first half with Spain leading 3-0.
In the second half, coach Luis de la Fuente substituted Yamal and Oyarzabal to preserve energy. However, his players maintained the pressure and scored a fourth goal in the 50th minute when Saudi defender Hassan Altambakti turned the ball into his own net. Neither side added further goals for the remainder of the match.
The win lifted Spain to the top of Group H with four points, while Saudi Arabia sit bottom with one point after two games. In the other group match played later, Cape Verde and Uruguay drew 1-1.
Speaking after the match, Oyarzabal said: “I don't need to prove anything. I always feel loved by my teammates, the coach, and the staff. That is what matters to me. People outside may talk, but we have to stay calm.”
Meanwhile, Yamal shared: “Scoring at the World Cup is a dream. I watched the previous World Cup from my classroom, so scoring here with my mother and family in the stands is a dream come true.”
