A South Korean-operated ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz while anchored near the UAE. All 24 crew members are safe. The cause of the fire remains unknown and will be investigated after the ship is towed to port.
South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on [date] that the cause of a fire aboard a South Korean-operated ship in the Strait of Hormuz remains unclear and will be determined after the vessel is towed to port for damage assessment.
According to Reuters, a ministry spokesperson stated: “The exact cause of the accident will be found after the ship is towed away and the damage is assessed.”
The fire broke out while the ship was anchored near the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Fortunately, all 24 crew members are safe with no casualties reported.
Yonhap news agency quoted a South Korean official as saying it is not yet known whether the incident was due to an external attack or an onboard explosion. The ship is expected to be towed to Dubai for investigation.
