Italgas CEO Paolo Gallo said during a recent visit to Japan that the company is looking to leverage Tokyo Gas's experience to enhance the resilience of Italy's energy system against earthquakes.
Gallo emphasized that Italy is one of the highest-risk countries for earthquakes in Europe, and cooperation with Tokyo Gas—which has years of experience in disaster risk management—will help Italgas optimize prevention and emergency response measures.
Under the agreement, the two sides will share technology, operational procedures, and best practices to ensure the stability of the gas distribution network under extreme conditions. Italgas expects this collaboration not only to improve infrastructure safety but also to reduce economic and social damage caused by natural disasters.
Italgas currently operates Italy's largest gas network, serving millions of households and businesses. Enhancing earthquake resilience is seen as a strategic priority for the company amid climate change and the increasing frequency of natural disasters.
