Tokyo Stock Exchange to Overhaul Topix, Cutting Constituents Below 1,000

The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) will overhaul the Topix index, reducing the number of constituent stocks to fewer than 1,000.

The announcement comes as the TSE gradually adjusts the structure of its key indices to improve their representativeness and the efficiency of the market.

The reduction in constituents is seen as a significant change for the Topix, an index that has long included a large number of companies listed on the Tokyo exchange.

Full details of the timetable and specific screening criteria were not laid out in the initial information.
